Ranch Life is a series of classes and hands-on programs that introduce students to an agricultural lifestyle. For many, this will be their first experience with rural culture and activity. Each class will learn about growing fruits and vegetables in a garden, raising a variety of different animals from all over the world, and being a cowboy through first hand experience on one of our many horses.
The Garden
Many students are surprised to learn that the vegetables they eat at dinner did not originate at the grocery store! Our own Alan Miller has been growing and teaching organic gardening for 11 years. His program educates students about soil, plants and animals that all play an integral role in the creation of a healthy garden.
The Animals
Our unique variety of animals will not only expose students to the cattle, sheep, and goats used in the Unites States but also to the agricultural use of animals outside of the US like Llamas and Barbado Sheep. Each animal is discussed, followed by a time where children are able to interact with and touch many of the animals.
The Horses
This is an experience that every student will remember! No matter the rider’s ability they will live the cowboy life first hand. Students saddle up and head out to enjoy our beautiful country side. Each ride will go through the woods, over the hills, into the wide open range and will last approximately one hour from beginning to end. Many students have never had the opportunity to ride a horse and find this to be the most thrilling part of their Sky Ranch experience. For ages 7 and up.
Adult Cattle Drives
An even more authentic cowboy experience will be offered to adults accompanying the Outdoor Education groups. Adults will saddle up and head out in search of our cattle grazing on the range. Once the herd is located and gathered into one group, guests will work together to drive the cattle across hills, creeks, and through woods to secure them in our working pens. Guests can experience the real cowboy life for 90 minutes while taking a break from normal routines and responsibilities. Each ride costs $15 per person.
Evening at the Livery
This evening will top off every school’s already amazing Outdoor Education experience! The night begins with pasture dodgeball (the best time you can have in a pasture). Dinner is prepared and served by our wrangler staff. After everyone is full, we build a fire and roast marshmallows or teach roping lessons, depending on each school’s preference. With some advance notice, this event can be tailored to suit each school’s needs and desires. The group minimum is 15 guests, and reservations must be made at least four days in advance. Cost is $15 per student; adult chaperones are free.
